We have recently had a incident with a member being observed landing a carp without using any form of unhooking mat; just laying the fish in his net directly onto the gravel.
This is not acceptable fish care and contravenes the Club’s rules. Bailiff’s will be checking to ensure members have the correct equipment.
As a minimum this includes and adequately sized net and a well padded -preferably polystyrene-ball filled- unhooking mat or even better, a cradle. You should also carry fish antiseptic to apply to any mouth or scale damage.
We are developing a high quality stock of carp, particularly at Whittlesford and we will be cracking down on poor fish care going forward. If you witness any poor practices, please speak out, and, if possible, inform a bailiff.
