Bordeaux Pit Summer Fishing Update: Tench, Carp, and New Additions

As we approach the Summer Solstice it seems Bordeaux Pit recovering to something like its old self……

The water levels have fallen back about 15 inches or so from the peak in mid-April and, thankfully, the sodden banks are beginning to dry out. Apart from a few metres around the top end of the island, it is now possible to get right around the lake without wellies. Some of the pegs are still submerged, but it is possible to fish at or near almost all of them now. Of course, care is needed, especially if you need to step down to land a fish.

The lake has been fishing well, even when it was over-flowing, but with the warmer weather finally arriving, it seems to have switched back on. In particular, some lovely Tench have been coming out after having been seemingly hidden for some time. Decent Carp continue to be caught, as well as the lumpy F1’s that have been mentioned before.

Even the silvers are beginning to show a bit more now and this will be boosted by the addition of approx 1,000 fish from Whittlesford earlier this week. They have already popped up in several nets. That exercise will be repeated in early July.

A few recent captures are shown below. Thanks to Josh Thompson for the use of his pics, and also to Chairman Tony Holmes’ grandson, Maximus, who seems poised to take over from the old man…..

Please update us with any catches you make – pictures will be very welcome for future updates.
