Wednesday 28th August

Today, a small work party spent a good chunk, of what was a pretty warm day, planting out a significant number of water-lily plants in the main lake at Bordeaux. These were kindly donated to the Club by Wilf Garner – the owner of Long Pond and Cable Pond in Clare. This saved the Club a considerable amount of money [well in excess of £500].
These plants will, when established, provide much needed oxygen, as well as food sources and shade and cover for the fish, thus helping with our predation prevention plan.
The lilies have been planted in weighted baskets at various points in fairly open water, as they thrive best in direct sun, away from shade. It will probably be next year before they really become visible, though you may see the odd shoot showing through before autumn.
Please DO NOT disturb the baskets to give the plants a chance to settle. We have marked where they are by tethering plastic bottles to them to act as ‘marker bouys’. When casting, please keep at least two metres from the markers.
We will see the benefits next summer.
