An absolute full-house of eighteen anglers made the trip to Clare for our one-off match on Long Pond. It was a bright but chilly autumn day with a stiff breeze springing up in the afternoon and with the water cold following the recent heavy rain. The feeling was that it was a hard day, but never-the-less, some creditable weights were posted from all around the lake.

In a triumph for youth over experience, Eliot Stephens ran out the clear winner in peg 15 with 31lb 07oz. He started strongly with a number of good roach and added skimmers and more roach steadily throughout the day. Eliot only signed up for the match on the Friday, taking advantage of the space left by an unavoidable drop-out.

Daniel Storey in Peg 8 was second with a 20lb 08oz mixed bag of skimmers and roach. Peg 8 had only last week been opened up and Daniel took full advantage of the extra space.

Ashley Kinsey was third in the unfancied peg 6 with 15lb 10oz; the expected carp in that peg not really troubling him on the day.

Stu Curtis won Section 1 [Pegs 1 – 6], with 9lb 03oz from peg 5. Unfortunately he skiddadled before he could collect his winnings. Fred will hand it over at the next match, assuming he doesn’t drink it first!

Section 2 [pegs 7-13] was won by Andy Macarthy with 12lb15oz from the well fancied peg 9. Graham Carter won Section 3 [pegs 14 – 19] with 8lb 03oz from the difficult corner peg 18.

Whilst it was a fairly tough day, everyone largely enjoyed it, though it did cost Pip Kerry a broken top kit, courtesy of a rogue carp. Several others had less damaging encounters with the lake’s carp; maybe carp should count on he next visit?

The results sheet is included in the gallery below, along with either before or after photos of all the day’s participants.

The next scheduled Club Match is on Sunday 13th October on the Big Lake at Home Farm [Little Walden]. Details and participant list on the appropriate Facebook post.
