The first day of meterological winter saw the last of our Club Matches for 2024 at a blustery and damp Home Farm – Little Walden. It was quite a tough day out , with the usually ubiquitous carp being reluctant to cooperate in large parts of the lake.

Fred Hunt managed to squeeze a couple of late additions into our half-lake booking, resulting in more and bigger pools pay-outs, just in time for Christmas. (Ker-ching!)

Stu Curtis ran out the winner with a bag of small carp, mostly on the method, for 27lb 03oz, from Peg 12. His winnings on the day were boosted by his £25 section winnings that had been burning a hole in Fred’s pocket since the match at Long Pond on 29th October.

Peter Jordan was second in peg 9 with 22lb 04oz, including the biggest [albeit slightly battered] fish of the day at 15lb. This was banked very late on and despite Peter losing a section of his landing net.

Barry Dickerson pipped third place from the two others weighing in 9lb plus, with 9lb 11oz from peg 13, mostly on the method, out to the island.

The two section winners, Dennis Gowlett – 9lb 07oz from peg 1, and Brian Mizon with 9lb 00oz from peg 11, would have framed at fourth and fifth respectively – so the result achieved a pleasing symmetry in the end.

Sadly, Nick Coote drew the peg where the leaves were collecting on the day and so packed up before time was called.

The full results sheet is shown below, along with the venue’s peg map, to help understand the geography of the match.

As mentioned, this was the last club Match of 2024, though there will be the usual Bordeaux ‘Knock-up’ for anyone already ‘Christmased-out’ on Tuesday 10th December. See the separate Facebook post to sign up, as usual.
