Sunday 16th March
You may have already noticed the lack of pictures of fish, which gives a big clue as to how today’s match went. A hard overnight frost and a cold wind blowing all day conspired to make for the hardest of matches on the Island Lake at Ashdon.
Results:
1st. Peter Mottram [Peg 19] 8lb 07oz
2nd. Brian Newman [Peg 13] 6lb 14oz
3rd. Mark Mifsud [Peg12] 4lb 08oz
4th. Dennis Gowlett [Peg 15] 3lb 03oz
Silvers – Fred Hunt [Peg 14] 2lb 11oz [of which just 8oz were silvers]
Peter Mottram in peg 19 was the clear winner with his two carp for 8lb 07oz. Brian Newman’s solitary carp was the biggest of the day and earned him second place from peg 13 with 6lb 14oz.
Mark Mifsud’s carp of 4lb 08oz from the fancied corner peg 12 was enough to earn him third place, whilst Dennis Gowlett completed the pay-out frame with, yes, another single carp, for 3lb 03oz from peg15.
Fred Hunt would have been fifth with his 2lb 11oz in peg14, but he was bumped into the money by winning the silvers prize with, erm, 8oz.
Three DNW’s and only eight carp between ten anglers is a poor return from a commercial water, but thanks to Fred’s egalitarian prize policy, half those participating got at least their petrol money back. [I am struggling to find positives here!]
