BORDEAUX -‘SMALL LAKE’ UPDATE

As some of you may be aware, our small team of dedicated ‘Elves’ have been working very hard over the last few weeks.

Plans and progress to date are as follows:

[The map below shows the approximate location of the pegs.]

Peg 1 – construction complete

Peg 2 – construction complete [and turf largely in place]

Peg 3 – to be raised and back-filled

Peg 4 – to be raised and back-filled

Peg 5 – construction complete

Peg 6 – construction complete

Peg 7 – construction complete

Peg 8 – construction complete

Peg 9 – original peg to be raised and extended forward

Peg 10 – construction complete

The majority of the heavy construction work will be completed in the next three weeks or so. The sharp-eyed amongst you will spot that no two pegs are constructed in the same way. This is a tribute to the ingenuity of our [ahem] ‘Design Team’, but mostly driven by the availability of materials.

Pegs 1 & 2 and 5 to 10 are all currently fishable, though the surfaces need to settle a little and be finished off with either rubber matting or paving slabs, so take care if you use them in the interim. The banks will need to be top dressed and titivated as well.

The floating island has been constructed and is being planted up and will shortly be floated into position. We also hope to remove the last large sunken branch of the fallen tree, between pegs 8 and 9, but that will be a big job.

It was very noticeable yesterday that there were lots of frogs about and frogspawn in the margins, providing food for the residents.

We owe particular thanks to Tony Holmes and Pip Kerry for making available loads of materials at zero cost to the Club. In addition, Dennis Gowlett has generously made his own digger available to us for an extended period. Thanks guys!

We give the individual Elves a ‘shout out’ on each update post on the Facebook Page..
