MATCH RESULT – Long Pond [Clare]

Today saw us make the first of our two planned visits for this year to Long Pond. We filled the lake to capacity, with 18 members fishing [the pokey peg 10 was left out of the draw]. The day started out pleasantly bright, though the brisk westerly breeze kept blowing up throughout the day to peg temperatures back a little.

RESULTS:

1st. Mark Roscoe [Peg 13] 24lb 03oz

2nd. Len Stephens [Peg 9] 22lb 11oz

3rd. Barry Dickerson [Peg 6] 21lb 08oz

Section 1. Michael White [Peg 3] 13lb 04oz

Section 2. David Forbes [Peg 8] 8lb 09oz

Section 3. Kevin Watkins [Peg 18] 20lb 01oz

The clear winner was ‘venue specialist’ Mark Roscoe in peg 13, with a net of well over a hundred fish of mixed species, caught steadily throughout the match to weigh in 24lb 03oz.

Second place went to Len Stephens in the usually fancied peg 9 with another mixed bag, including a very misshapen Brown Goldfish which bumped his weight up to 22lb 11oz. Len had to ‘see off’ no fewer than sixteen carp during the day.

Third place went to Barry Dickerson in the normally tricky peg 6 where he landed a couple of decent Bream in his net of mostly Skimmers, for 21lb 08oz.

Section 1 [pegs 1 -6] was won by Michael White in peg 3 with 13lb 04oz.

Section 2 [pegs 7 -13] was taken by David Forbes with 8lb 09oz from peg 8.

Section 3 [pegs 14 – 19] was won by Kevin Watkins in peg 18 with 20lb 0oz.

The Carp began muscling in to most pegs late in the piece, which impacted the finish for some. Given the numbers fishing, the weights were pretty good with the winners spread around the lake. It was also nice to see some new names appearing in the frame.

Fred Hunt did his best to make the payouts as complicated as possible and every third entrant went home richer than they were when they arrived. They were also wetter as the rain arrived with a vengeance, just at the crucial moment.

The full results sheet is below for those of you who like to analyse theses things. Several of the guys opted for anonymity when it came to the post-match ‘press call’.

The next Club Match is on Sunday 27th April at Rockell’s Farm. We have half the lake booked, so numbers are limited. Fred will take reserves and try to buy extra spaces nearer the day. The notification post will appear on the Facebook page shortly.

The Club is back at Clare on Sunday 11th May when we will be on the sister lake – Cable Pond. Keep an eye out for the post nearer the time.
