MATCH RESULT – Cable Pond – Clare.

Sunday 11th May

Cable Pond – Clare

Today saw us make the first of our two planned visits for this year to Cable Pond. We filled the lake pretty much to capacity, with 16 members fishing [peg 17 was left out of the draw to prevent any border disputes with peg 1].

The sun shone brightly from the outset and it turned pretty warm as the day progressed. Those drawn shaded pegs were grateful for them.

RESULTS:

1st. Daniel Porter [Peg 14] 14lb 04oz

2nd. Peter Warren [Peg 4] 11lb 08oz

3rd. Doug Richmond [Peg 2] 8lb 02oz

4th. Mark Roscoe [Peg 16] 6lb 12oz

Sec 1 [Pegs 1 – 8] Sandy Dickenson [Peg 5] 5lb 07oz

Sec 2 [Pegs 9 – 16] Brian Mizon [Peg 9] 2lb 13oz

Conditions were tough for everyone as the warmth and breeze combined to produce a lot of pollen, willow fluff and catkins, particularly in the higher numbered pegs. Graham Carter suffered particularly badly in peg 12, which was pretty much unfishable for a few hours of the match.

Daniel Porter on peg 14 on the high bank found several larger skimmers / small bream late on to bump his weight up and give him the clear win. Peter Warren in peg 4 caught steadily for his second place.

Doug Richmond caught a mixed bag from the often tricky peg 2 for third, whilst venue specialist Mark Roscoe , also on the high bank on peg 16 found some decent roach for his fourth place.

Sandy Dickenson bagged a cracking Perch in peg 5 to help him land section 1, while Brian Mizon in peg 9 pipped Mark Fitzjohn by an ounce to take section 2.

The total weight caught of about 68lb was considerably less than the venue would normally produce for sixteen anglers, but Fred Hunt’s ‘nearly everyone’s a winner’ policy meant that a third of the competitors went home with more in their pocket than they started with.

The results sheet and a map of the venue are given below to help you decipher the day.

The next Club match is in three weeks on Sunday 1st June at Home Farm [Little Walden] on the Big Lake. A sign-up post will appear on the Club’s Facebook Page in due course.

It is worth noting that June 1st is the first day of the new Club year. You will need to have renewed your membership to take part……
