[Little Walden]
Sunday 1st June
[Big Lake]
Today saw us make the short trip to our near neighbours at Home Farm [Little Walden]. With twelve fishing we were able to take the whole of the Big Lake for our exclusive use.
Weather conditions changed constantly between overcast, windy and sunny which, along with some spawning activity made the carp shy as the day progressed.
RESULTS:
1st. Mark Fitzjohn [Peg 6] 103lb10oz
2nd. Sandy Dickson [Peg 5] 32lb 02oz
3rd. Brian Mizon [Peg 12] 25lb 14oz
4th. Fred Hunt [Peg 16] 25lb 05oz
Notwithstanding the shyness of the carp, Mark Fitzjohn stormed to a huge win with a massive 103lb 10oz from the usually productive Peg 6. Mark was on the fish from the outset and caught steadily, seemingly on whatever tactics he tried.
Sandy Dickson pitched up second from next door in Peg 5 with 32lb 02oz; following a late run in at the margins. Sadly his catch was tipped back before we could grab a photo…….
Brian Mizon was third on the opposite side of the lake in Peg 12, with 25lb 14oz., mostly caught on the method feeder. Fred Hunt was pipped by 9oz into fourth place on Peg 16 with 25lb 05oz, perhaps penalised by the time he took to land his biggest fish [of about 10lbs].
Everyone seemed to have to mix and match tactics throughout the day as conditions changed and the carp were perhaps distracted by nookie…..[who wouldn’t be?].
Once again, the beneficence of Fred’s payout policy meant that one in three went home with folding money in their pocket. It should also be mentioned that Peter Mottram didn’t fish the whole match, having to dash off to a swanky ‘do’ elsewhere’ but he got his ‘fishing fix’ first.
The results sheet is below, along with a map of the locations of the pegs to help you understand the geography of the match.
Our next Club match is an Inter-Club match against Bishops Stortford, on Wednesday 25th June. It is an away fixture at their Beggar’s Hall fishery. We will need a team of ten. Details will be posted on the Club Facebook page shortly.
