Wednesday 23rd July
INTER-CLUB V’S BISHOPS STORTFORD AND DISTRICT ANGLING SOCIETY [BSDAS]
Home leg – at Bordeaux Pit
We were at HOME for the second round of our 2025 four-match series against BSDAS.
It was a warm and overcast day at Bordeaux with conditions looking pretty much perfect. Sadly the fish, especially the carp, stayed away with patchy results showing all round the lake.
We were pretty much trounced on our home water, with BSDAS winning by 59 points to our 47.
Individual placings:
1st Brian Newman [SWAC} Peg 36 17lb 08oz
2nd Phil Whitmill [BSDAS] Peg 33 8lb 09oz
3rd Clive Bradford [SWAC] Peg 26 5lb 11oz
4th Rob Calderon [BSDAS] Peg 28 5lb 01oz
Silvers:
Steve Foster [BSDAS] Peg 35 7lb 11oz
[Steve would have been third overall but forfeited that place by winning the Silvers Match]
In spite of taking first and third spots, our back-up weights were off the pace. Brian Newman fished a good match in peg 36 to land four F1’s and a decent Tench, as well as a decent net of silvers.
Phil Whitmill in peg 33 banked the only carp of the day very early on to boost him in to second place.
{Sadly, the Carp had a size 8 barbed hook in it’s mouth, attached to a BRAIDED hook length and main line with a 2oz weight on an incorrectly set up safety clip. – NOT acceptable guys!!]
Clive Bradford on peg 26 had a good mixed bag, including a couple of decent Crucians to take the third place left vacant by Steve Foster. Rob Calderon had a bag which included a number of Chub, which are showing pretty good growth from when they were stocked in December last year.
At the other end of the results sheet, Trevor Kappes, fishing in his first ever match, made sure he would not be asked back by sticking to his usual [and previously successful ] MO of targeting the Tench, Crucians and F1’s in the margins. He managed four Rudd in time to score a point for the team with [ahem] 2 ounces. [Having missed the net with the first two he caught
].
Overall it was a disappointing day for SWAC, especially as hitherto, Bordeaux had been showing well with some good recent catches.
The full results sheet is below. There are only a few pictures as the more complicated weigh in process meant that the photographer was kept otherwise engaged.
The next Club match is also the next leg of the Inter-Club series when we are away to BSDAS at Hall Farm on Wednesday 20th August. The sign-up post will appear on the Facebook page two weeks before the match, as usual.
