Today saw the Club once again hosting its annual Youth Open Day at Bordeaux Pit..
Thankfully the recent heat abated and we had near perfect conditions for the visit of the youngsters and their accompanying adults.
After a brief health and safety introduction the day was given over to a three-hour ‘knock-up’ match on the Small Pit, with a small ‘over-flow’ group on the Main Pit.
A band of volunteers was on hand to offer advise and encouragement and, pleasingly everyone caught, with all the lakes species putting in an appearance, including one of the ‘rogue carp’, which , after weighing, we were able to re-home in the Main Pit. Roughly 20lb of fish were caught in the three hours.
The three winners [shown below] were rewarded with suitable trophies, and everyone fishing was presented with an Angling Trust ‘Get Fishing’ Certificate.
All the participants all seemed to enjoy themselves and we have received some very positive feedback from some of the adult attendees. We have also already signed up two new members from those taking part.
Many thanks to our team of volunteers, especially Pip Kerry and Dinan Gunawardena for supplying the trophies, bait and whips, rigs and equipment.
Looking forward to repeating the success next year.
