Sunday 21st September
Long Pond – Clare
Today saw us make the second of our three planned visits for this year to Long Pond. Fourteen anglers comfortably fitted around the lake, with five of the less favoured pegs left out of the draw. [Pegs 1, 6, 10, 14 and 18 for those wishing to know the geography – see map below].
The sun shone brightly for most of the day, but a keen northerly wind took the edge off the temperatures. Actually, on the low numbered side, it was bloody freezing!
RESULTS:
1st. Mark Fitzjohn [Peg 4] 22lb 03oz
2nd. Daniel Porter [Peg 19] 17lb 12oz
3rd. Pip Kerry [Peg 5 ] 15lb 08oz
Sec 1 [Pegs 2 – 9] Dave King [Peg 2] 11lb 13oz
Sec 2 [Pegs 11- 19] Sandy Dickson [Peg 13] 12lb 15oz
The lake fished well, with some good individual weights and a total of 148lb 14oz accross the fourteen participants, so averaging over 10lb each. The full results sheet appears below for the number-crunchers amongst you.
Mark Fitzjohn was the clear winner on peg 4 with 22lb 03oz of mostly skimmers and roach caught steadily throughout the day, with the occasional interference from a number of rogue carp. Well fished Mark!
Second place went to Daniel Porter in the generally unfancied peg 19, with 17lb 12oz with a mixed bag which included a number of good looking rudd. Pip Kerry framed third with 15lb 08oz from peg 5, often one of the favoured pegs. Another mixed net with a couple of decent skimmers bumping up the weight.
Section 1 [pegs 2-9] was won by Dave King, again catching steadily and also warding off a number of uninvited carp. Sandy Dickson took Section 2 [pegs 11-19] with another mixed bag, including a couple of decent perch.
A good day was had by everyone – it seemed to be a particularly good natured social affair – decent weather always helps! Fred Hunt did his usual top-notch job in organising and making sure that a third of the participants went home with folding stuff in their pockets.
