SWAC youth day 14th May 2022

A great day was had by all at the SWAC open day today. We had a great turnout on a beautifully sunny day and some great prizes were given away!

The day started out with everyone arriving in the car park, strolling down the lake to meet our anglers and get their eye in on their seat boxes and whips. After everyone had got their eye in and were comfortable in what they were being taught, Sam Robinson and Kieron McDonagh (organisers) brought everyone together for a quick chat about fish safety, wildlife and how to look after the environment around them while fishing.

After that, everyone rushed back to their pegs to await the “all in!”. The youngsters fished for an hour, putting every fish they caught into their keepnet and getting back out there as soon as possible to catch the next one.

At the end of the match, all of the catches were weighed in and the top three weights were…

1st place – Edith – 1lb 15oz

2nd place – Taylor – 15oz

3rd place – Oliver – 13oz

Well done to all who fished!

A special mention to young Alfie who attended and was coached by our chairman Tony Holmes. In practice, he landed a whopping 10lb carp! Well done young man!

I’d like to take a moment to thank our amazing sponsors – Stansted Angling, Cambridge Carp Cabin and JKL Tackle. All three of these shops are relatively local to Saffron Walden and are all very friendly and helpful! Remember – buy local!

Following the feedback we received today, we are pleased to announce that we will be organising another open day for this summer holiday. I’ll upload the details as soon as they’re settled. Keep your eyes out!

I would like to thank all those who helped out on the day – it would have been impossible without your generosity!
